This Field of Honor is a Memorial as a lasting tribute to those men and women who have served our country in war and peace. Those who survived were forever changed. Those who died were forever young in their loved one's memories. Using a pentagon theme, the Field of Honor is built around a 32-foot flag pole which is illuminated from dusk to dawn. It honors veterans of World War I, World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. It is located next to the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce.

The lake was the site of the former Jackson County Iron Mine quarry and is now the deepest inland lake in the State of Wisconsin with a maximum depth of 355 feet. Remnants of the mining operation still remain visible underwater and divers often find artifacts. Massive boulders and sheer cliff faces create challenging and interesting features for the more experienced recreational diver. Novice divers will enjoy the gradually descending roadways, which are found throughout the quarry and may encounter several groups of fish cribs. Beach lovers will enjoy the sand beach area and the clear water for swimming. Anglers can fish for popular game fish as walleye, crappies and bass. For more information, visit The Jackson County Forestry & Parks Dept. online.
