Experience the wild, wild West. The Frontier Army Museum is part of Fort Leavenworth; it is the oldest active Army post west of the Mississippi River. The Fort, critical to the success of westward expansion, was a launching post for thousands of pioneers, soldiers, and adventures heading west. The Museum pays tribute to the frontier culture of the U.S. Army during the 19th Century. They provide many living history programs to educate the public about the men, women and life of the Frontier Army 1839-1851. In addition to the normal living history connections, they are planning to conduct living history interpretations specific to the things experienced by the Corps of Discovery. Frontier Army Living History Association has a group of men portraying the soldiers of the Corps of Discovery. The unit will be uniformed and equipped as the expedition appeared from June through July of 1804. Each July there is a Lewis & Clark historical encampment on the grounds.
