Our Events

Warblers and Wildflowers Festival
May 24 - 28, 2007

Be sure to bring a camera as you and your family take in the natural wonders of Acadia National Park and Mt. Desert Island. Island-wide morning birding walks, garden tours, art, lectures and social events make this annual event a joy for all ages. For details, visit www.barharborinfo.com or call (207) 288-5103.

Blessing of the Fleet and Seafarer's Memorial Day Festival
June 10

Observe the traditional opening of the sailing and boating season. The clergy of the Maine Sea Coast Mission, from aboard their vessel the Sunbeam, bless each boat as it passes by in procession, with a memorial service following.

Legacy of the Arts
June 17 - 22

Your family will appreciate this community-wide celebration of art and culture. The event begins with a musical salute to all dads on Father's Day and includes concerts, workshops, "meet the artists" events and more throughout the week. For more information, visit www.barharborinfo.com or call (207) 288-5103.

Bar Harbor Music Festival
Throughout July

Critics call the Bar Harbor Music Festival "one of the nation's proving grounds for gifted young artists." With several weekly concerts, from classical to string-quartet jazz and even opera, the music aficionado will not be disappointed.

Bar Harbor Parade and Seafood Festival
July 4

Start Independence Day off with blueberry pancakes, followed by an old-fashioned hometown parade. Directly following the parade, the Seafood Festival takes place at the athletic field on the corner of Park and Main. Thousands of people will attend, and hundreds of pounds of lobster, corn-on-the-cob and mussels will be prepared to perfection.

Annual Native American Festival
July 7

The festival is a celebration of Native culture, with events including storytelling, traditional music, wood carving and traditional dancing. Artists from four area tribes (Maliseet, Micmac, Passamaquoddy and Penobscot) will demonstrate craft-making and beadwork, with items for sale.

Open Garden Day
July 22

In keeping with the library's "open minds, open hearts, open books" motto, seven private gardens will be open to the public for the Ninth Biennial Garden Tour, A Festival of Flowers, benefiting the Southwest Harbor Public Library. All the gardens in this year's tour are located west of Somes Sound where the mild influence of salt water and tides create an abundance of flower, plants, and trees.

Bar Harbor Jazz Festival
August 17 - 23

The Bar Harbor Jazz Festival features nine days of jazz with shows all over town. Venues include outdoor cafés, The Criterion Theatre, restaurants, pubs and the Village Green.
