Although it's just a stone's throw from convenient I-80, the Grand Island KOA feels like a quiet, shady country park. Sit back and scour the skies for migrating sandhill cranes, which arrive each spring by the tens of thousands to rest and fatten up along the Platte River. No matter when you visit, learn more about these beautiful birds at the Crane Meadows Nature Center in nearby Wood River. Be sure to stop by Grand Island's expansive Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer, home to an 1860s log cabin settlement. The museum's 1890s railroad town includes the house where actor Henry Fonda was born in 1905. Island Oasis Water Park is a great place to cool down-unless you'd rather just laze in the KOA pool or spa.
