Indian Head

Indian Head, Saskatchewan is just minutes away from the majestic Qu’Appelle Valley. Inquire at the KOA office for directions to take the walking tour through Indian Head -- twice named Provincial Winner in the Communities in Bloom program in its population category.

Indian Head Golf and Country Club

A stunningly beautiful course featuring gently undulating fairways, bordered by more than 30,000 mature pine and spruce, combined with several species of prairie trees and shrubs, which provide a home to a variety of prairie song birds, give the course a natural park-like feel. Walk-ons are welcome. The dress code is casual. Credit cards and Interac are accepted. The pro shop can supply equipment and power cart rentals. Putt and chip practice green and driving range available.

PFRA Shelterbelt Centre

A short five minute drive will take you to the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration (PFRA) Shelterbelt Centre, a 640 acre (256 ha) area producing 29 hardy tree and shrub species. Annually the Centre distributes over 5 million trees and shrubs to 10,000 prairie clients. During the severe drought of the 1930's Shelterbelt Centre staff worked with the newly formed PFRA to plant field shelterbelts and demonstrate their use for soil conservation. Over 2,000 km of shelterbelts were planted, many of them still present today. Tours of the nursery for the general public and professional organizations are held periodically to demonstrate the activities of the Shelterbelt, as well as advise rural communities of the benefits of shelterbelts.

Bell Farm Round Barn

The Bell Farm at Indian Head consisted of 53,000 acres (210 kmē). This was so huge and out of the ordinary that, on many occasions, the passenger trains would stop and let the passengers watch the harvesting operation.This Historic Round Stone Barn was built in 1882 just North of Indian Head on Hwy 56.

Rural Sports Hall of Fame and Museum

In 1992, the Rural Sports Hall of Fame opened in Indian Head; notable inductees have included CKRM’s Willie Cole and Barry Trapp of Hockey Canada. Located at 405 Dewdney Street.

The Indian Head Statue

The statue with a height of 18 feet was built in 1985. Weighing 3,500 pounds, it was built from metal pipe, metal mesh, and 3 coats of cement at a cost of $12,750. It was designed by Don Foulds. The statue is located at the southwest corner of Indian Head on the north side of Hwy 1.

Indian Head Museum

The museum is a 1907 two story brick fire hall located at the corner of Bell & Otterloo Streets. The site includes: 1883 Bell Farm cottage used by hired help on the famous Bell Farm; 1926 one-room country school; replica 1930s village garage; military building - remembering local people who served our country. Open: July to August or by appointment. 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Valley View Guest Ranch

Take a scenic 7 minutes drive north of Indian Head on Hwy. 56 (6 miles n. 1 mile East) and you will arrive at Valley View Guest Ranch where on you may venture out on the edge of the beautiful Qu’Appelle Valley for a guided trail ride or an old fashioned hayride. Open year round.

Katepwa Beach Golf Club

Nestled in the quiet beauty of the Qu'Appelle Valley, the Katepwa Beach Golf Club is one of the most scenic golf courses on the Canadian Prairies. Play the course once and each hole will be vividly imprinted in your memory. Carved deep into the vast plain of Southern Saskatchewan by ancient glacial melt water, the beautiful Qu’Appelle Valley provides a stunning setting for this 18 hole golf course. Just a 15 minute drive from Indian Head.
