Horseback FAQ's

What are the trails like?: This isn't a "cow pasture ride". It's on a mountain trail, so the terrain is not flat.

Do I need to be an experienced rider to ride?: No experience is necessary to ride. Horseback rides are great for beginner through advanced riders, with beautiful wooded scenery. Rides are open to all horse enthusiasts and nature lovers. Although heart and athleticism are often more important than experience when judging riders or horses, all riders must be physically able to control their horses at all times.

How safe are your horses?: In the state of Georgia, horseback riding is considered to be an inherently dangerous activity. Horses, being a prey animal, have a natural instinct to flee when threatened. Having said this, we ALWAYS take every precaution to be as safe as possible. Our horses are seasoned trail horses that have been exposed to many situations. We match the rider to the most appropriate horse, and take every safety precaution.

How old do you have to be to ride?: All riders MUST be at least 6 years old, or older. There is no limit for how old a rider can be. As stated, all riders must be physically able to control their horses at all times.

Is there a weight limit for horseback riding?: Naturally there must be a limit. Most horses are able to safely carry approximately 1/3 to 1/4 of their weight. Restrictions start at 225 lbs. If anyone in your party weighs 225 lbs. or more, please contact us for more information. As we have several different horses to choose from, we may be able to make an accommodation for someone who might be over this limit.

Is the horseback riding with Western or English tack, and can I bring my own saddle?: We provide all equipment. Western saddles and tack are our choice for our trail rides and it is inspected daily for safety. No outside equipment will be allowed on horses.

Is this a nose to tail ride?: It's not a good idea to try to ride abreast on wooded trails. We ride in small groups of 2-6 riders. Smaller groups of this size can be quite versatile on the trails. In a literal sense, the horses will inevitably ride nose-to-tail. All rides are at a walk only.

Can I bring my own horse?: No, we do not allow any outside horses.

Can I ride the horses without a guide?: No, rides at our facility are with our experienced guides only.

What if it rains?: None of us have control over the weather. A lot of times when there is rain in the forecast, it won't rain a bit here at the facility. If and when it does rain, it may not rain during our riding times. Even then, it is usually possible to ride in light rain in the absence of lightning or thunder. If you have an upcoming reservation and rain is in the near term forecast, you may cancel your reservation (forfeiture of deposit).

Why do I have to pay a deposit and what is your refund/cancellation policy?: Your trail ride is set for the time and date scheduled specifically for you. We are dealing with live animals. Hauling the horse(s) to the site, preparing the animal for your ride and having an experienced wrangler to assist you are all part of what you are paying for.

A 50% deposit is required to reserve your trail ride. Parties arriving with fewer guests than reserved for will be charged the full amount. There is no adjustment to the final bill for early departure, unforeseen departure, or changes in itinerary. If you cancel at least 72 hours ahead of your arrival date, then you would get back your deposit less a 20% administration fee. If you cancel your scheduled ride within 72 hours, we would only refund a portion of your deposit if we can fill the space we were holding for you. All reservation deposits are non-refundable on "no shows" or on cancellations received less than 24 hours prior to the reservation time.

Each trail ride is approximately 1 hour long and is $30.00 plus tax per person for KOA campers.
