Civil War buffs have a field day near this quiet countryside spot in the woods near I-95. Four of the war's most significant historic battles were fought here. Marked paths and roadways, audiovisual aids and tours help fill in the details as you walk or drive along the battlefields. Scores of lovely Colonial and Federal-style buildings have been preserved from the 18th and 19th centuries in the town of Fredericksburg. Paramount's Kings Dominion amusement park, championship golf courses and lots of great shopping lie within a half-hour's drive. Washington, D.C., is about an hour north. Take KOA's free shuttle to the train that heads into the city during the week or drive to Springfield any day and board the Metro to the heart of the capital, where tours are available.
