Snowy Range Ski AreaLocated 35 miles west of Laramie. Offers downhill and cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. Summer offers hiking and scenic drives. Diamond Guest Ranch/ChugwaterLocated an hour northwest of Cheyenne. Enjoy horseback riding, hay rides, trout fishing, hunting, kiddy pony rides, steakhouse and bar, dance hall and more. Fort Laramie National Historic SiteBuilt in 1834 as a fur trading post. Later acquired by the military in 1849 and used as a military post from 1849 to 1890 to guard the wagons along the various trails that went through the area. Open year round. Oregon Trail Ruts and Register Cliff (Guernsey, WY)Self-guided tours of both sites available. Curt Gowdy State ParkLocated 26 miles west of Cheyenne and 27 miles east of Laramie along Highway 210. Excellent for boating, hiking and fishing. Vedauwoo Recreation AreaKnown for spectacular granite rock formations. Rock climbing and picnic areas available. Ames MonumentA state historic site west of Cheyenne off I-80. A 60 foot pyramid build in 1883 as a monument to Oliver and Oakes Ames (two men instrumental in the construction of the first transcontinental railroad). |
