Casper KOALocal Area AttractionsUnless noted, all attractions are within a 10 minute drive of the Kampground. National Historic Trails Interpretive CenterOverlooking the North Platte River, this unique facility tells the story of America's westward expansion through the Trails Center's interactive exhibits and multi-media presentations. Nearly 500,000 people traveled the Oregon, Mormon, California and Pony Express Trails between 1840 and 1870 and they all passed through Casper. Experience history! Fort Caspar MuseumTour a reconstructed 1865 military post located at a major river crossing on the Oregon, California, Mormon Pioneer, Pony Express, and transcontinental telegraph trail corridor. Independence RockOn any summer evening in July, 1853 hundreds of emigrants could be found swarming all over Independence Rock, chiseling messages to others following behind. Many of the emigrants arrived here on the fourth of July, and that was cause for celebration. Pies were baked and revelry was shared. Please visit and see our names carved in the rock. (45 minute drive from the Kampground). Mormon Handcart Visitor's CenterExperience a handcart trek much like the one pioneers endured over 150 years ago. Visit the Mormon Handcart Visitors' Center and view exhibits recording the tragic circumstances of two handcart companies. (45 minute drive from the Kampground). Three Crowns Golf ClubThree Crowns Golf Course is built on a former Amoco Oil Refinery site along the North Platte River. The golf course is built atop a remediation project that will be ongoing. The whole site is known as the Platte River Commons which consists of a golf course, business park, jogging trail, and parks, on approximately 350 acres of total area. The golf course is a 7,065 yard par 72 layout designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The course has 110 acres of playable turf and about 45 acres of native areas. Casper Municipal Golf CourseCasper Golf Club, Casper's public golf course, opened in 1929 with the original layout designed by Robert Muir Graves with sand greens as putting surfaces. In 1953, the greens were changed to bentgrass along with some re-routing of the holes. In 1997, an additional nine holes, designed by Keith Foster, were opened, making Casper Golf Club, Wyoming's only 27 hole golf facility. The Nicolaysen Art Museum & Discovery CenterThe Nicolaysen Art Museum & Discovery Center, known throughout the region as the NIC, has occupied its current 25,000 square foot location at 400 East Collins since 1990, when an extensive renovation of the 1924 Mountain States Power Company building was completed. The NIC provides a place to educate, stimulate, and promote the understanding of art so that people can meet, view, study, create and enjoy contemporary art of the Rocky Mountain Region. Tate Geological MuseumOne of a small number of geology and paleontology museums in Wyoming, the Tate houses a collection of over 3000 fossil and mineral specimens. Museum staff are always on hand to answer questions, help identify items visitors bring in, and make your visit to the museum an enjoyable experience. Werner Wildlife MuseumLocated just a short walk from Casper College's campus, the museum is a valuable and interesting resource available to all! Wyoming is famous for its abundant and diverse vertebrate wildlife, thus the focus of the Werner Wildlife Museum is on wildlife indigenous to Wyoming. However, displays include numerous other specimens from North America, Asia, Malaysia, Africa, Europe and other locations around the world. Casper PlanetariumPrograms are presented throughout the year providing audiences with a unique multimedia experience with space and astronomy related subjects. Programs range from the latest frontiers of astronomical research to astronomy's earliest roots. Casper Events CenterLocated just 2 miles from the Kampground, the Events Center hosts concerts, plays, rodeos, arena football, expos, and much more. The link below will display upcoming events. The Casper GhostsCome watch Minor League Baseball at its best! Our local team has provided numerous players for the Colorado Rockies. Opening day is June 20th. The Wyoming CavalryArena football is fast paced and gets you up-close to all the action. It's great fun for the entire family! The Casper Recreation CenterThe Casper Recreation Center has something for all residents and visitors. The facility serves as a site for a wide variety of programs and drop-in activities, in additional to being the focal point of recreation services in the community. Casper Ice ArenaThe Casper Ice Arena is one of the finest ice skating facilities in the Rocky Mountain Region. The ice arena offers a wide variety of programs including public skating, Learn-To-Skate Classes, figure skating, hockey, curling, special events, birthday parties, and private rentals. Casper Family Aquatic CenterCome and enjoy our facility. Waterslides, lap pools, and hot tubs are available. Everyone is welcome! |
